About me

Hello, I’m so glad you stopped by!

comillasIt takes a village to raise a child” is the famous African proverb that’s constantly mentioned when giving new moms advice. The truth is a village is what most of us lack when we become mothers abroad.

Family and longtime friends, who could happily help from time to time are far away. It feels like the huge responsibility of EVERYTHING relies on you and your partner. Add to the mix that it’s increasingly hard to make new friends as an adult (especially if you are staying home.) The fact that you speak a different language and come from a different culture thickens the plot.

About Moms Living

Ten years ago, I moved with my husband from Mexico City to the US. Three years later I became a mom, and to be completely honest a grown up.

Far away from my native home, and without a strong support system I had to figure out how to be the best mom I could be in a country, and language that’s not my own.

In 2018 I became a mom again, and my first born (a very active, funny, and sharp boy) became a big brother. We welcomed to our family a sweet, smart and determined baby girl (our rainbow baby.) Feeling more confident about it, at least on some days, I started my journey raising two kids abroad. I’m still learning about it everyday.

Life living abroad has taught me a lot about myself, and has awaken in me a burning interest in cultures around the world, and how much we can learn from each other.

About Moms Living

I’ve come to realize that if you’re willing to get out, make mistakes (lots of them!), and be open to change, you’ll find amazing experiences, life-changing growth, and lovely people who will help you build your new village along the way.

About Moms Living

My wish for this blog is to create a supportive community of international moms living abroad, where we can share our experiences and help each other in our journey.

It does take a village to raise a child, but to be honest, what I’ve discovered is that it takes a village to raise a happy mom.

Let’s build our village. I’m thrilled to have you here!

Mónica.

LET’S BE FRIENDS!
